CHAPTER 5 — "The Vault Was Empty... Except for One Thing"

The explosion ripped through the mansion like an earthquake.
Crystal chandeliers crashed from the ceiling.
Marble columns cracked.
Guests screamed and ran toward the exits.
Charlotte was thrown to the floor as dust filled the grand hall.
"Charlotte!"
Richard sprinted through the smoke, shielding his daughter with his own body as chunks of stone rained down around them.
"Dad..."
"I'm okay..."
"No," Richard said, pulling her close for the first time in years. "I'm never letting you out of my sight again."
Security guards rushed downstairs toward the underground vault.
The reinforced steel door had been blown wide open.
Richard's chief of security stared in disbelief.
"Sir..."
"The vault has been breached."
Richard immediately pushed past the guards.
Flashlights swept across the darkness.
Rows of empty shelves stretched from wall to wall.
The gold bars were gone.
The rare paintings had vanished.
The confidential business files had disappeared.
Even the biometric servers had been ripped out.
Charlotte whispered,
"She stole everything..."
Richard slowly shook his head.
"No."
"This wasn't Vanessa."
He knelt beside the damaged floor.
There were no signs of panic.
No random destruction.
Everything had been removed with military precision.
Whoever entered the vault had known exactly where every valuable item was stored.
"This was planned months ago," Richard muttered.
One of the guards suddenly shouted,
"Sir! Over here!"
In the center of the vault stood a single black pedestal.
Unlike everything else, it hadn't been touched.
Resting on top was a small velvet box.
Nothing more.
Richard frowned.
"Don't touch it."
The bomb squad carefully scanned the box.
"No explosives."
"No poison."
"No tracking device."
Richard slowly opened it.
Inside...
wasn't money.
Wasn't jewelry.
Wasn't a key.
It was a little silver bracelet.
Charlotte gasped.
"I know that..."
She picked it up with trembling hands.
"My mom made this for me when I was five."
She turned it over.
Engraved inside were three tiny words:
Trust No One.
Richard's face turned pale.
Emily had never engraved messages by accident.
If she had hidden this bracelet inside the vault...
She had known someone would eventually break in.
Beneath the bracelet lay a folded piece of paper.
Richard unfolded it carefully.
Only one sentence was written across the page.
"If the vault is empty, the thief has already betrayed you from inside your own family."
Silence filled the underground room.
Charlotte looked around at the executives, lawyers, security guards, and household staff gathered behind them.
Every face suddenly seemed suspicious.
Richard slowly folded the note.
His expression became cold.
"No one leaves this estate."
Every guest froze.
Every employee exchanged nervous glances.
Richard turned to the head of security.
"Lock every gate."
"Collect every phone."
"Search every vehicle."
"If someone helped steal my family's future..."
"They're still standing in this house."
Just then, a young security officer ran down the stairs, breathless.
"Mr. Kingsley!"
"We found hidden surveillance cameras."
Richard looked up.
"Cameras?"
"Yes, sir."
"They weren't installed by your security team."
The officer swallowed hard before adding,
May you like
"And they've been secretly recording this mansion..."
"...for the last eighteen years."
