Chapter 4 - THE HIDDEN ANGLE

"The lens she never saw turned her viral masterpiece into a digital execution."The man in the grey suit was Arthur Vance, Senior Legal Counsel for Whitmore Global. He stepped between the police officers and Elena, handing a tablet to the lead cop.
"Officers, before you make an arrest that will end your careers, I suggest you watch this synchronized multi-angle playback," Arthur said, his voice dripping with icy professionalism.
Chloe pressed closer, keeping her livestream live. "What is that? A fake video? They're trying to forge evidence, guys! Stay tuned, they're trying to buy their way out of this!"
"Quiet," the lead officer snapped, his eyes glued to the tablet screen.
The video playing on the screen wasn't from the store's ceiling cameras, which were partially blocked by a massive crystal chandelier. It was a crystal-clear, 4K resolution feed from an angle Chloe couldn't comprehend.
It was coming from the lapel pin on Elena's coat.
A custom-designed, micro-lens security camera disguised as a vintage gold brooch. It was a state-of-the-art personal defense recording device used by high-net-worth individuals, streaming directly to a private cloud monitored 24/7 by a private security firm.
The video on the tablet showed the entire sequence of events in perfect detail:
Chloe standing by the open display case while Pierre was away.
Chloe’s manicured hand slipping the Étoile de Minuit out of the case.
Chloe walking with a guilty, hurried stride toward Elena.
The undeniable, high-definition footage of Chloe’s own hand reaching out and dropping the diamond necklace into Elena's open coat pocket.
The officer's face turned from suspicion to absolute shock. He looked up from the tablet, his eyes locked onto Chloe.
"Wait, what?" Chloe stammered, feeling the air leave her lungs. "What's on there? That's a deepfake! She's an AI investor or something, she fabricated that!"
"Miss Bennett," the officer said, stepping away from Elena and moving toward Chloe. "Put the phone down. Hand it to my partner immediately."
"No! I'm live! I have three hundred thousand people watching right now!" Chloe screamed, backing away until her spine hit a marble pillar.
"Then your three hundred thousand followers are about to watch you get arrested for Grand Larceny, Filing a False Police Report, and Defamation," Arthur Vance said calmly, adjusting his cuffs.

The livestream chat was moving so fast the text became a white blur. The sentiment flipped in a microsecond. 'CHLOE FRAMED HER?' 'Oh my god, look at the tablet screen!' 'She put it in her pocket!' 'Cancel Chloe!' 'Prison era unlocked!'
"No, no, no!" Chloe wept, her perfectly applied mascara beginning to run down her face as the second officer grabbed her wrists, forcing her to drop her phone. The camera spun on the marble floor, catching a final angle of Chloe Bennett being pushed against the pillar, her hands forced into steel handcuffs.
