Chapter 6 - THE COURTROOM CLIMAX

"The judge asked if she had any last words. She looked at the audience... but the real audience was already gone."The State of New York vs. Chloe Bennett became the trial of the year. The courtroom was packed with journalists, remaining true-crime vloggers, and onlookers wanting to see the fall of the influencer princess.

Chloe sat at the defense table, looking like a ghost of her former self. Her defense attorney tried to argue that she was suffering from "social media dysmorphia"—a psychological addiction to validation that blurred her understanding of reality.

When Elena took the stand, the courtroom fell completely silent. She didn't look like a victim; she looked like a monarch reviewing her subjects.

"Mrs. Whitmore," the prosecutor asked, "how has this event impacted your life?"

"It forced me to realize that public perception is a weapon used by the deeply insecure to hurt the undefended," Elena testified, her voice echoing off the high wood-paneled walls. "Miss Bennett didn't see a human being when she looked at me. She saw a prop. A stepping stone for her own vanity. If I had been a working-class woman without a legal team and a personal security feed, I would be sitting in a jail cell right now. That is the true crime."

The jury deliberated for less than two hours.

"On the count of Grand Larceny in the first degree, we find the defendant, Chloe Bennett, guilty." "On the count of Filing a False Police Report, guilty." "On the count of Identity Theft and Defamation, guilty."

The judge, a no-nonsense woman with thirty years on the bench, looked down at Chloe over her glasses. "Miss Bennett, you treated the legal system and human dignity like a TikTok trend. I intend to ensure you understand the permanence of reality."

"I sentence you to seven years at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, with no possibility of parole for the first four years."

Chloe collapsed into her chair, screaming as the bailiffs grabbed her arms to lead her away. She looked out into the gallery, searching for her friends, her followers, her managers.

The seats were empty. The influencer world had moved on to the next trend.
