Chapter 8 - THE PRISON VISIT

"She thought she was serving a sentence... until she realized she was still serving her master."Bedford Hills Correctional Facility was a cold, grey contrast to the gleaming marble of Fifth Avenue. Chloe Bennett sat behind the scratched plexiglass window, her hands trembling in her orange jumpsuit. Her skin was sallow, her hair stripped of its expensive extensions, and her eyes were hollowed out by fear.
When the heavy steel door opened and Elena Whitmore walked into the visitation room, Chloe’s breath caught in her throat. Elena looked immaculate in a tailored charcoal suit, exuding the kind of power that could buy and sell the prison itself.
"Why are you here?" Chloe whispered through the intercom, tears immediately welling in her eyes. "You won. You destroyed my life. You took my parents' house. Why can't you leave me alone?"
Elena picked up her receiver, her face an unreadable mask of absolute control. "I’m here to check on my investment, Chloe. And to offer you a choice."
Chloe let out a bitter, broken laugh. "An investment? I’m a convicted felon serving seven years! I have zero dollars, zero followers, and zero future. I am nothing to you."
"You are only nothing if I allow you to be," Elena said softly, her voice carrying a chilling weight. "You see, Chloe, the public thinks your story ended when the judge banged her gavel. But in my world, stories don't end until the profits are maximized."
Elena leaned closer to the glass, her gaze locking onto Chloe’s terrified eyes.
"The real estate development your father tried to block? It’s complete. The Whitmore Tower now stands tall on Manhattan's skyline. But your father... your father has become a liability. He’s writing a book. He’s digging into the shell companies that acquired his zoning rights. He suspects the truth."
Chloe’s heart pounded against her ribs. "The truth? What truth?"
"The truth that I orchestrated your downfall from the very beginning," Elena murmured.
Chloe gasped, dropping the receiver. It clattered against the metal desk. She stared at Elena in absolute horror as the realization washed over her. The anonymous emails, the unlocked display case, the perfect angle of the brooch camera—it wasn't a mistake. It was a perfectly laid trap, and she had walked right into it.
Elena waited patiently until Chloe, driven by a desperate need for answers, slowly picked the receiver back up.
"You're a monster," Chloe choked out.
"I am a businesswoman," Elena corrected her calmly. "And right now, your father is trying to ruin my business. I need him silenced, Chloe. And you are the only person he will listen to. If you convince him to sign a non-disclosure agreement and drop his investigation, I will have my legal team find a technicality in your trial. You’ll be out of here in three months."

Chloe shook her head violently. "No. No! I will never help you hurt my father again!"
Elena smiled, a cold, predatory expression that made the blood run cold in Chloe's veins. "Then look closely at the guard standing behind you, Chloe. Do you think your safety inside this prison is guaranteed? You have twenty-four hours to make your choice."
