Deep within the high-security vault of Whitmore Global Investments, Elena Whitmore sat at her desk, reviewing her quarterly portfolio reports. Arthur Vance walked in, carrying a glass of vintage scotch, placing it gently on her desk.

"The final liquidation of Chloe Bennett’s family assets is complete," Arthur said, sitting down. "The parents' home was sold. Her grandmother's trust was absorbed. Total recovery after legal fees: $420,000."

Elena took a sip of the scotch, a faint smile on her face. "A small return on investment, but satisfactory."

Arthur chuckled, leaning back. "The public actually believes she just happened to pick you out of a crowd. They still call it 'The Ultimate Instant Karma' on Reddit."

Elena opened a hidden drawer in her desk, pulling out a secondary smartphone—one that had never been introduced in court, one that was completely untraceable. She unlocked it and opened an encrypted messaging app.

The chat history showed a conversation from six months ago, dated the night before the incident at Maison Laurent.

The messages were between an anonymous account and Chloe Bennett’s personal business email.

Anonymous: Elena Whitmore will be at Maison Laurent tomorrow at 3 PM. She is an undercover auditor for the IRS trying to shut down luxury brand loopholes. Elena scrolled through the messages, her eyes cold and calculating.

She had leaked her own schedule to Chloe through a burner account. She had paid Monsieur Pierre a $100,000 'discretionary bonus' to leave the display case unlocked for exactly three minutes. She had worn the coat with the hidden brooch camera specifically knowing Chloe wouldn't be able to resist the setup.

"Why did you do it, Elena?" Arthur asked softly, looking at the screen. "You could have ruined her legally without the theater."

Elena looked up, her expression completely ruthless. "Chloe Bennett’s father was the head of the zoning committee that was blocking our $400 million Manhattan real estate development. He was unbribable. Old school. Proud."

Elena stood up, walking to the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking Central Park.

"But when his precious daughter faced a $25 million civil suit and ten years in prison, he needed money, and he needed power. He signed over the zoning rights to a shell company owned by Whitmore Global in exchange for us dropping the secondary lawsuits against his family properties."

She took another sip of her drink, the city lights reflecting in her eyes.
