CHAPTER 3 — THE WILL THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Three days later...

My family's attorney called everyone together.

Vanessa arrived wearing white.

Almost like a bride.

Daniel stood proudly beside her.

My cousins whispered.

They expected one announcement.

That I was retiring.

Instead...

Attorney Lewis unfolded Father's sealed amendment.

"My late client left one final condition."

The room became silent.

"Whoever mistreats my son during hardship shall receive nothing from my estate."

Vanessa laughed.

"How ridiculous."

Lewis continued reading.

"My investigators will determine everyone's conduct after my son's accident."

Color disappeared from every face.

Vanessa slowly turned toward me.

"What investigators?"

I smiled faintly.

The televisions lowered from the ballroom ceiling.

Video began playing.

Every insult.

Every humiliation.

Every cruel laugh.

Every kick against my wheelchair.

Every whisper.

Recorded.

Multiple angles.

Crystal-clear audio.

Vanessa stumbled backward.

Daniel looked like he couldn't breathe.

Then came another video.

Security footage.

Someone entering the underground garage the night before my accident.

Daniel.

Holding a toolbox.

The ballroom erupted.

Martin suddenly shouted,

"This wasn't my idea!"

Vanessa spun toward him.

"You idiot!"

Too late.

Everyone had heard.

And then...

May you like

Attorney Lewis smiled.

"There is still one more clause."
