CHAPTER 8 — VANESSA'S LAST GAMBLE

Prison wasn't where Vanessa expected to end up.
Unable to accept defeat, she made one final move.
One rainy evening, Marcus received an anonymous message.
Come alone if you want Clara alive.
By the time we traced the location...
It was already too late.
An abandoned shipyard.
Clara stood tied to a chair.
Vanessa held a pistol with trembling hands.
She had escaped while being transferred between detention facilities with help from two hired criminals.
"You took everything from me!" she shouted.
"You destroyed yourself," I answered.
She laughed wildly.
"No. You chose the maid over me!"
"I chose kindness over greed."
Police surrounded the warehouse.
Sirens echoed outside.
Vanessa became desperate.
"If I can't have this life..."
"...neither of you will."
She pointed the gun toward Clara.
Before she could pull the trigger—
A loud crack echoed through the warehouse.
Marcus had fired.
The bullet struck the weapon, knocking it from Vanessa's hand.
Officers rushed inside.
Within seconds...
It was over.
As they handcuffed her again, Vanessa stared at Clara.
"I should've gotten rid of you first."
Clara simply replied,
"No."
"You should've learned how to love."
May you like
Vanessa lowered her head.
She never spoke another word.
