CHAPTER 1 – The Will Everyone Thought They Had Already Won

The Whitmore family had spent three days pretending to mourn.

Black clothes. Fake tears. Carefully rehearsed hugs.

But the moment the funeral ended, every member of the family rushed to the mansion's private library for one reason.

The inheritance.

Everyone believed they already knew how the late billionaire, Henry Whitmore, had divided his fortune.

His eldest son, Richard, smiled confidently.

His wife whispered, "By tonight... we'll own everything."

Even the lawyers looked relaxed.

Until the oldest person in the room slowly stood.

Evelyn Whitmore.

Henry's eighty-three-year-old widow.

For years, everyone had treated her like a harmless old woman who barely understood what was happening around her.

They interrupted her.

Ignored her.

Mocked her memory.

But that afternoon...

She quietly placed a faded envelope on the antique desk.

"I believe my husband wanted this opened only after everyone gathered together."

The room immediately fell silent.

Richard frowned.

"Mother... that's impossible. Father never mentioned another letter."

The family attorney looked confused.

Neither had he.

Evelyn slowly unfolded the yellowed paper with trembling hands.

Every eye in the room followed.

The first line made the attorney's face lose all color.

"If you are hearing this letter... then someone in this room has already betrayed my family."

A heavy silence swallowed the mansion.

Richard laughed nervously.

"This has to be some joke."

But Evelyn kept reading.

Henry described secret bank accounts...

Private meetings...

Millions disappearing from company funds over the last five years.

Every sentence felt like another bullet.

Faces around the room slowly turned pale.

Someone quietly stepped backward.

Someone else reached for a glass of water with shaking hands.

Richard's smile disappeared completely.

Then Evelyn reached the final paragraph.

She suddenly stopped reading.

Her eyes widened.

Her hands began to tremble.

The room waited.

"What does it say?" Richard demanded.

Evelyn slowly looked up...

Not at the lawyer.

Not at the family.

She stared directly at Richard.

Tears filled her eyes.

May you like

And she whispered only five words...

"Henry knew it was you."
