CHAPTER 4 – The Heir Standing in the Corner

Richard suddenly lunged toward the vault door.

But security blocked him.

The attorney kept reading.

Henry’s fortune would not go to Richard.

Not to his greedy wife.

Not to the relatives who had laughed at Evelyn.

Instead, everything would go to one person.

Everyone leaned forward.

Evelyn whispered, “No…”

The attorney read the name aloud.

“Clara Whitmore.”

A young woman standing silently near the back of the room froze.

She was the housekeeper.

For five years, Clara had cleaned their floors, served their dinners, and listened while the family mocked her poverty.

Richard laughed bitterly.

“A maid? You’re giving our empire to a maid?”

The attorney shook his head.

“She is not a maid.”

Evelyn covered her mouth.

The attorney opened the final document.

Clara was Henry’s biological daughter.

Born from a secret relationship before his marriage.

Hidden for her own safety.

Henry had found her years ago, but Clara refused money. She only asked for one thing…

to work inside the mansion and learn who the family truly was.

And she had seen everything.

Every insult.

Every betrayal.

Every stolen dollar.

Clara stepped forward, holding a small recorder.

Her voice was calm.

“Richard, you should have been kinder to the people you thought were powerless.”

Then police sirens echoed outside the mansion.

Richard turned to Evelyn in horror.

Evelyn wiped her tears and said:

“Henry didn’t leave you nothing, Richard.”

She paused.

May you like

“He left you enough evidence to spend the rest of your life in prison.”
