CHAPTER 5 – The Billion-Dollar Throne Came With One Final Condition

The flashing police lights painted the mansion windows blue.

Richard was handcuffed in front of the same family that had once feared him.

As officers led him away, he turned toward Clara.

"You think you've won?"

Clara didn't answer.

She simply watched the gates close behind him.

Inside the library, the silence felt heavier than ever.

The attorney placed one final leather folder on the table.

"There is still one unfinished instruction from Mr. Whitmore."

Clara frowned.

"I thought everything was over."

The attorney slowly shook his head.

"No..."

"It has only just begun."

He unfolded Henry's last written order.

"My true heir must earn this family—not inherit it."

Confused murmurs filled the room.

Henry had created a challenge.

Clara would become CEO immediately...

But she would receive only one dollar until she completed twelve months running the company.

If she failed...

Every dollar of the Whitmore fortune—worth nearly $9.8 billion—would be donated to children's hospitals around the world.

Some relatives couldn't hide their smiles.

"She's just a maid."

"She'll destroy the company in weeks."

"Then nobody gets anything."

Clara calmly signed the acceptance papers.

"I don't need the money."

"I only need the chance."

Three months later...

Everyone expected disaster.

Instead...

Profits reached record highs.

Factories Henry had once been forced to close reopened.

Thousands of former employees were invited back.

Executive bonuses were canceled.

Workers received raises for the first time in years.

News outlets called it...

"The Miracle CEO Nobody Saw Coming."

The family watched in disbelief.

The woman they had ignored was rebuilding an empire they had nearly destroyed.

But Evelyn wasn't smiling.

Every night...

She secretly visited one locked room inside the mansion.

A room Henry had forbidden anyone else to enter.

May you like

And every night...

She cried.
