CHAPTER 7 – The Little Boy at the Memorial Said One Word... and Clara's World Shattered Again

Six months after Evelyn's funeral...

The Whitmore Foundation opened its first children's hospital.

Thousands attended.

Employees.

Former workers.

Families whose lives had been changed.

Everyone believed the Whitmore story had finally reached its happy ending.

Then...

A little boy, no older than seven, quietly stepped through the crowd holding a worn-out teddy bear.

He stopped in front of Henry and Evelyn's memorial.

Placed a single white lily on the stone.

And whispered...

"Thank you... Grandma."

Clara heard him.

She frowned.

Grandma?

She slowly walked over.

"Sweetheart... who brought you here?"

The boy smiled innocently.

"My mommy."

A young woman stepped forward.

Clara recognized her immediately.

Sophia.

Henry's former personal secretary.

The woman who had disappeared nearly twenty years earlier without saying goodbye.

Sophia's eyes filled with tears.

"I promised Henry I would never come back..."

"...unless Evelyn was gone."

Clara's heartbeat quickened.

"What are you talking about?"

Sophia carefully handed Clara a small wooden box.

"I've been keeping this for twenty years."

Inside the box...

There was another letter.

A tiny silver bracelet.

And a newborn hospital wristband.

The name printed on it wasn't Clara.

It wasn't Richard.

It read...

Baby Grace Whitmore.

Clara looked up in confusion.

"I don't understand."

Sophia's voice trembled.

"You were never an only child."

The world seemed to stop.

Henry had hidden another daughter.

Not because he didn't love her...

But because someone had tried to kidnap both girls after discovering the Whitmore fortune.

To save them...

The sisters were separated forever.

One stayed with Henry.

The other disappeared under a new identity.

Clara's hands shook uncontrollably.

"Where is she now?"

Sophia slowly turned...

Toward the little boy.

May you like

"He isn't my son."

"He's hers."
