CHAPTER 2 – The Letter Was Never About the Money
Richard exploded.
"She's lying!"
He lunged toward Evelyn, trying to snatch the letter from her hands.
But before he could touch it...
The attorney stepped between them.
"Sit down."
For the first time in years, Richard obeyed.
The attorney carefully examined the paper.
The handwriting.
The signature.
The seal.
Everything was authentic.
"This... was written by Mr. Whitmore six months before his death."
The room froze.
Evelyn continued reading.
Henry revealed that someone inside the family had been quietly selling company secrets to competitors.
Millions had vanished.
Employees had lost jobs.

Richard laughed again.
"So where's the proof?"
Evelyn slowly reached inside the envelope.
Everyone expected another page.

A tiny brass key slid onto the desk.
The attorney immediately recognized it.
"My God..."
"That's the key to Henry's private vault."
A vault no one had ever been allowed to open.
Richard's confidence vanished.
Within minutes, security escorted everyone to the underground vault beneath the mansion.
The massive steel door slowly opened.
Inside were shelves filled with documents.
Hard drives.
Photographs.
Bank transfers.
Hidden surveillance recordings.
And one thick folder with Richard's name written across the front.
His wife collapsed into a chair.
His younger brother stepped away from him.
No one spoke.
Richard tried to smile.
"There must be some misunderstanding..."
The attorney opened the folder.
The first document wasn't about stolen money.
It was a DNA report.
The attorney stared at it...
Then slowly looked at Richard.
His voice barely came out.
"Richard..."
"...Henry wasn't your biological father."
The room gasped.
