CHAPTER 3 — The Hospital’s Dirty Secret

The security guards moved toward the bed.
Sarah threw herself in front of Emily.
"Don't touch her!"
The hospital director, Dr. Howard Vance, forced a cold smile.
"Mrs. Carter, you're emotional. Those documents are fake."
Daniel stepped forward.
"Then why are you scared?"
Vance's eyes sharpened.
"Because you're trespassing."
Emily clutched the envelope against her chest.
For the first time in months, she didn't look weak.
She looked awake.
"Is it true?" she whispered. "Did you treat me for someone else's illness?"
No one answered.
That silence told her everything.
Suddenly, an elderly nurse appeared in the doorway.
Her name was Margaret.
She had worked in the maternity ward the night Emily was born.
Tears ran down her cheeks.
"I can't stay quiet anymore."
Dr. Vance turned furious.
"Margaret. Leave."
But she stepped inside.
"That baby switch wasn't an accident."
Sarah nearly collapsed.
Margaret pointed at the director.
"He ordered it."
Daniel's face went pale.
"Why?"
Margaret looked at Emily with trembling lips.
"Because another baby was born that night... the daughter of a billionaire family."
"And she was the sick one."
The room froze.
Emily's entire life had been stolen...
So a rich family's child could live untouched.
Then Margaret whispered the final horror:
May you like
"Emily wasn't the patient."
"Emily was the cover-up."
