CHAPTER 4 — The Girl Who Was Never Supposed To Survive

Police arrived within minutes.

Dr. Vance tried to run, but Daniel blocked the door.

For twelve years, Daniel had been blamed, erased, and lied to.

Now he stood between the man who ruined his family and the little girl he had never stopped searching for.

Sarah opened the full file.

Inside was the real name of the child who had received Emily's identity.

Ava Whitmore.

The daughter of one of the richest families in America.

But the biggest shock came from the final page.

A handwritten note from the night Emily was born:

“If the Carter baby survives, everything is over.”

Sarah covered her mouth.

"Survives?"

Margaret nodded through tears.

"Emily was never expected to live after the switch. They thought the wrong treatment would kill her quietly."

Daniel turned to Emily.

"But you survived."

Emily's eyes filled with tears.

"Why would anyone do that to a baby?"

No one had an answer cruel enough.

That evening, the news broke across the country.

A dying girl.

A stolen identity.

A hospital scandal.

And one billionaire family hiding in silence.

But just when Sarah believed the truth would finally save Emily...

A black car stopped outside the hospital.

A woman in designer clothes stepped out.

Her face was hidden behind sunglasses.

In her hand was a second suitcase.

She looked up at Emily's window and whispered:

May you like

"That girl cannot speak to the police."

Then she walked inside.
