The woman entered Emily's hospital room without knocking.
Her tailored white coat, diamond earrings, and flawless posture made every doctor in the hallway step aside.
She removed her sunglasses.
Sarah immediately recognized her.
Victoria Whitmore.
The wife of billionaire investor Richard Whitmore.
The mother of Ava Whitmore.
The little girl who had unknowingly lived under Emily's identity.
Victoria looked at Emily for several seconds.
No emotion.
No sympathy.
Only calculation.
"So... you're still alive."
The words hit the room like a gunshot.
Daniel stepped between Victoria and the hospital bed.
"You knew."
Victoria didn't deny it.
"I knew enough."
Sarah exploded.
"You stole my daughter's life!"
Victoria remained calm.
"No."
"I protected mine."
Emily stared at her, confused.
"What do you mean?"
Victoria slowly walked closer.
"Twelve years ago my daughter had less than a one-percent chance of surviving."
"The doctors said she needed experimental treatment immediately."
"But if the media found out, my husband's company would collapse."
"So someone offered us... another solution."
Sarah's knees nearly gave out.
Victoria continued without remorse.
"They told us another baby could take Ava's medical identity."
"I was promised no one would ever know."
Emily's voice trembled.
"So... you let them use me?"
Victoria finally looked into Emily's eyes.
"I told myself you would never survive long enough to remember."
The room erupted.
Sarah slapped Victoria across the face.
The sound echoed through the hallway.
Security rushed forward, but no one dared stop the grieving mother.
Victoria wiped the blood from her lip.
Then she smiled.
"You think exposing me changes anything?"
"My husband owns half this hospital."
"And every person in this building knows exactly who signs their paychecks."

Daniel's phone rang.
He answered.
The color drained from his face.
Someone had broken into his house.
