Three days later.

The news of the warehouse disaster sent shockwaves through the country. Hail Enterprises crumbled overnight as federal investigators, acting on evidence leaked directly from Victor’s syndicate, uncovered decades of blackmail, corporate fraud, and human trafficking linked directly to Derek Hail’s board of directors.

In the quiet, sunlit conservatory of Victor’s private estate, Lena sat in an armchair, watching the rain wash over the glass ceiling. Her physical wounds were beginning to heal, but the mental scars remained deep.

The door clicked open, and Victor walked in. He wore a simple black shirt, his arm in a tight sling, a small bandage across his cheek.

He stood near the window, looking at her in silence for a long moment.

"Derek’s body was recovered yesterday by the coast guard," Victor said quietly. "The river pulled his remains downstream. It is over, Lena. You are free."

Lena looked down at her hands. "Free," she repeated softly. "My father’s medical bills are paid. My family estate was returned to us this morning by the state court. I owe you everything, Victor."

"You owe me nothing," Victor said, turning to face her. "I told you, I did it to repay a debt to your father."

Lena stood up, walking slowly across the room until she was standing directly in front of him. She looked up into his cold gray eyes—eyes that didn't seem so cold anymore.

"You're a terrible liar, Victor Salvatore," Lena said softly.

Victor raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?"

"My father didn't save your brother ten years ago," Lena said, her voice steady and clear. "I looked through my father’s old journals yesterday in the safe deposit box. My father was a simple civil engineer. He never met a Salvatore in his life."
