Chapter 13 - The Golden KeyBack at the Shaw estate, the morning sun was just beginning to burn away the coastal fog that clung to the cliffs. Inside the sunlit conservatory, Mia sat reading a colorful storybook to Penny, whose small legs swung back and forth against the cushions of the velvet sofa.

On the coffee table beside them rested the little wooden music box. The lid was open, and the tiny mechanical ballerina spun gently, filling the room with the soft, tinkling notes of its familiar lullaby.

Penny pointed a small finger at the spinning dancer. "Mommy, does the wolf have his key now?"

Mia smiled gently, brushing a dark curl away from her daughter's forehead. "Yes, sweetie. The wolf has his key, and the castle gates are locked forever. Nobody will ever hurt us again."

"Good," Penny declared firmly, closing the music box with a soft click. "Because Papa promised we’re going to plant strawberries in the garden today."

Aaron stepped through the glass doors from the terrace, rolling up the sleeves of his crisp white shirt, a wide grin lighting up his face. "Did someone say strawberries? Because I happen to know an expert gardener who has been waiting all week to get her hands dirty."

Penny squealed with delight, sliding off the sofa and running straight toward her father. Aaron scooped her up into his arms, tossing her gently into the air before catching her against his chest as she shrieked with laughter.

Mia stood up, walking over to join them, her heart lighter than it had been in years. The terrifying uncertainty of the past month—the cold apartment, the constant fear, the shadow of Graham’s men—was gone, replaced by the profound, unshakable warmth of a family reunited.

"Declan called from the city an hour ago," Aaron said softly, looking down at Mia with a tender expression. "The summit is over. Marcus signed the transfer documents without firing a shot. The entire eastern seaboard is officially under our protection."

Mia let out a long breath she hadn't realized she was holding. "And the Vanguard?"

"Broken," Aaron replied simply. "They’re packing their bags for countries that don't extradite. We won, Mia. The war is over."

Mia stepped into the circle of his arms, resting her head against his shoulder as Penny wrapped her small arms around both of them. Through the glass doors, the vast ocean stretched out endlessly to the horizon—calm, brilliant, and entirely at peace.
