Chapter 24 - Shadows GatheringThe private jet touched down on the tarmac of the Chicago airstrip under a blanket of heavy midnight clouds. The sleek aircraft taxied smoothly toward the private hangar, its jet engines winding down with a low, dying whine.

Inside the cabin, Declan sat in silence, turning Julian’s battered leather notebook over and over in his hands. The pages were filled with handwritten financial ledgers, secret offshore account numbers, and cryptic notes detailing an alliance between exiled syndicate bosses across Europe and rogue elements within the American federal banking system.

Aaron sat opposite him, his laptop open, displaying a complex web of encrypted data packets that had been intercepted from the European servers within the last hour.

"Julian didn't act alone," Aaron said without looking up from his screen. "Our firewall intercepted a massive data dump originating from a secure server in Zurich—the exact same financial institution where Vincent was funneling our assets before we purged him."

Declan set the notebook down on the tray table. "Julian was the original architect of the offshore laundering schemes that our father shut down in the nineties. If he’s back, it means he’s managed to pool the remnants of the Vanguard syndicate, the Italian mob families, and European exiles into a single, unified coalition."

"A coalition funded by billions in hidden assets," Aaron added grimly, looking up to meet his brother's eyes. "They aren't trying to infiltrate our shipping lanes anymore, Declan. They’re preparing a complete hostile takeover of Shaw Enterprises—legally, financially, and physically."

"Let them try," Declan said, his voice steady and cold. "They think we’re vulnerable because we stepped out of the shadows into the light. They don't understand that stepping into the light didn't make us weak—it gave us an army they can't touch with bullets."

As the cabin door opened, a cool gust of wind swept into the aircraft. Waiting at the base of the mobile stairs was Captain Vance, flanked by four elite enforcers and a black armored convoy ready to escort them back to the estate.

"Is everything secured at the main house?" Declan asked as he descended the steps into the damp night air.

"Vance has doubled perimeter security," the captain reported immediately. "The guards are stationed at every gate, the security cameras have been upgraded to military-grade thermal imaging, and Mia and Penny are safely inside the main residence under guard."

Declan nodded once, sliding into the back of the armored sedan. "Good. Because tomorrow morning, we aren't waiting for them to make the first move. We’re taking the fight to their doorstep."
