Chapter 7 - The Midnight Trap at Pier 12The midnight fog rolled in thick off the dark waters of the harbor, swallowing the towering silhouette of the container cranes at Pier 12. The cavernous brick warehouse at the edge of the pier was completely dark, its massive sliding steel doors shut tight against the chill wind.

Inside the damp, echoing space, three unmarked black vans pulled silently to a halt near Loading Bay 4.

Sixteen heavily armed operatives clad in matte-black tactical gear stepped out of the vehicles, their suppressors gleaming faintly under the flickering amber glow of the emergency lights. Their leader, a scarred veteran named Viktor who answered directly to the Vanguard syndicate bosses, raised a gloved hand to signal his men.

" Shaw’s organization is headless," Viktor muttered into his comm-link, his voice raspy and confident. "Graham's death threw them into chaos. The warehouse is empty. Grab the cargo crates marked with the red stripe and clear out in ten minutes."

The operatives moved with practiced military precision, spreading out across the cavernous floor toward the towering stacks of shipping crates. Viktor strode toward the center office, pulling a heavy charge from his vest to blow the reinforced security door.

Click.

The heavy click didn't come from Viktor’s charge. It came from the overhead catwalks twenty feet above.

Viktor froze, his head snapping upward.

Instantly, a hundred halogen floodlights ignited simultaneously along the steel rafters, blinding the intruders with a wall of searing, blinding white light. The shadows vanished in a fraction of a second, revealing thirty armed enforcers lining the catwalks with their weapons trained squarely on the center of the floor.

"Welcome to District 7," a cold, smooth voice echoed from the shadows above.

Viktor spun around, raising his assault rifle, but before his finger could squeeze the trigger, a single suppressed shot cracked through the air. The rifle was blown out of his hands, spinning across the concrete floor with a metallic clatter.

From the shadows of the loading bay entrance, Declan Shaw walked slowly into the light. Behind him walked Aaron, flanked by Marcus Vance and a dozen elite enforcers. Declan’s hands were tucked neatly into the pockets of his heavy wool coat, his expression utterly impassive.

"You..." Viktor gasped, clutching his bleeding right hand. "How did you know we were coming? The routes were secure!"

"Nothing in this city moves without my permission, Viktor," Declan said, stopping ten feet away from the wounded Vanguard commander. "You thought you could buy a rat inside my house and pick the bones of my empire while I was mourning. You forgot the fundamental rule of the underworld."

Declan stepped closer, his shadow falling completely over the captured mercenary.

"What rule?" Viktor spat, blood dripping onto the concrete.

"Family," Declan replied softly. "You don't steal from a wolf's den."

Aaron stepped forward, holding a ruggedized tablet that displayed a live satellite feed of the Vanguard syndicate's primary headquarters across town. "While your men were playing hide-and-seek in our warehouse, our strike teams seized your financial servers, your main armory, and your executive safehouse. Your bosses are currently trying to book flights to countries that don't have extradition treaties with us."

Viktor’s face drained of color. He looked around the warehouse at the silent, unwavering wall of armed men surrounding them. There was no escape. There was no backup. The trap had been sprung with absolute, flawless perfection.

"Take them to the lower holding cells," Declan ordered without breaking eye contact with Viktor. "And send a message to the Vanguard leaders: Tell them Aaron Shaw says hello."
