Chapter 14 - The Unedited Truth

The massive 4K video screens surrounding the studio stage flickered to life.
The entire live broadcast—watched by over sixty million households worldwide—suddenly shifted to crisp, high-definition security camera footage recorded three years ago in the mediator’s office.
Audio blasted clearly through the studio speakers:
> Preston’s Voice (on screen): "Take the girls, Lena. I have a son coming now." > Lena’s Voice (on screen): "Are you sure, Preston?" > Preston’s Voice (on screen): "Brielle is having a boy. My parents are thrilled. At least something good came out of this whole mess."
Gasps echoed from the live studio audience. Preston’s face turned from pale to ash gray in a split second.
"That... that was taken out of context!" Preston stammered, scrambling toward his microphone. "That was—"
"Silence," Lena said, her voice cutting through his panic like a guillotine.
She tapped the screen again. The video changed to the audio recording from the diner just three days prior:
> Evelyn’s Voice (on screen): "We make the world believe Lena Hartwell is a ruthless monster... When the public outrage threatens her stock price, she’ll be forced to pay us off just to make us shut up."
The studio audience gasped in horror. Evelyn froze, her handkerchief dropping to the floor, her fake tears instantly vanishing.
"And finally," Lena announced, her voice echoing with absolute authority, "regarding the claim that I stole Hale Tech’s intellectual property..."
A series of bank ledgers and corporate documents appeared on screen, bearing Julian and Evelyn’s signatures.

"For seven years," Lena explained, addressing the audience directly, "Evelyn and Julian Hale used shell companies to embezzle over twelve million dollars from Hale Tech, hiding the debt in offshore accounts while using my personal trust fund as a legal shield. I didn't steal Hale Tech. I liquidated it to prevent federal authorities from arresting them earlier. But since they have insisted on dragging this into the public eye..."
Lena looked straight at Preston. "The Federal Bureau of Investigation received the complete, unedited accounting ledgers one hour ago."
