Chapter 12 - The Dissent WithinThe rain lashed heavily against the tinted glass of a private boardroom in a high-rise overlooking Manhattan. Inside, Dominic sat at the absolute center of the syndicate council table, his expression carved from granite.

The older capos—men who had bled beside him through decades of territorial wars—shifted uneasily in their leather chairs. The pressure from Lorenzo Rizzi’s growing coalition of black-market syndicates was mounting, and cracks were beginning to show in the loyalty of the inner circle.
Capo Victor, an aging veteran with a scarred cheek, leaned forward, resting his palms on the polished mahogany.
“Boss, with respect,” Victor began, his voice tight with guarded anxiety, “the streets are talking. They say your focus has shifted entirely to the pediatric foundation and the girl. Lorenzo is moving in on our shipping lanes in Brooklyn and Queens. If we don't show force, our own men are going to start wondering who’s really running this family.”
Dominic didn't raise his voice. He didn't slam his fist onto the table.
Instead, he stood up slowly, towering over the council. The suffocating, lethal aura of an apex predator filled the room, instantly silencing every murmur.
“Victor,” Dominic said, his voice dropping into a low, vibrating growl. “You think my devotion to my daughter makes me weak. You think because I chose a life where she doesn't have to sleep with a pistol under her pillow, I’ve forgotten how to use one.”
Dominic walked slowly around the table, stopping directly behind Victor’s chair.
“Let me make something crystal clear to everyone in this room,” Dominic continued, his gray-green eyes sweeping over the pale faces of the capos. “Protecting my daughter and protecting this empire are not two separate missions. They are the exact same thing. Anyone in this room—or on these streets—who mistakes my love for my child as an invitation to challenge my throne will not survive the night. Do I make myself understood?”

Victor swallowed hard, nodding mutely.
The dissent vanished in a single breath. But Dominic knew words alone wouldn't stop Lorenzo. The real war was coming to their doorstep.
