Chapter 13 - The Unseen ShieldKnowing the underground whispers would soon translate into active violence, Dominic tightened the security web around his family without disrupting the sacred innocence of eight-year-old Lily’s world.

He didn't want his daughter growing up in a cage of armed guards. Instead, he integrated protection seamlessly into her daily routine. He brought in Maya, a top-tier former international intelligence officer and tactical expert, disguised as a private art tutor and estate archivist.
Lily, now eight and possessing her mother’s keen, analytical observation combined with her father’s sharp intuition, was far smarter than anyone realized.
One afternoon, while sketching watercolors in the sunlit conservatory, Lily paused and looked up at Maya.
“You know, Ms. Maya, your right shoulder sits about two inches higher than your left,” Lily observed casually, mixing blue and yellow paint on her palette. “That’s not how painters stand. That’s how my dad’s men stand when they’re hiding a tactical harness under their jackets.”
Maya froze, her paintbrush hovering over the canvas for a fraction of a second before she recovered with a smooth smile. “Is that so, Lily? And what else do your sharp eyes notice?”
“I notice the new security cameras hidden inside the oak trees by the eastern drive,” Lily said quietly, her serious blue eyes locking onto Maya’s. “And I notice that Daddy’s car takes three different turns to get to my school now instead of one.”
Maya set her brush down, kneeling beside the young girl. “Your father just wants to make sure you’re safe, Lily. The world outside can be... complicated.”
“I know,” Lily said softly, dipping her brush back into the water. “I don't mind. As long as Daddy’s safe, too.”

Maya transmitted a private log back to Dominic that evening: She’s too smart for her own good, Boss. She sees everything. And she’s fiercely protective of you.
Dominic read the message in his study, a quiet, melancholic smile touching his lips. She truly was Sophia’s daughter.
