Chapter 17 - THE RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK

Within minutes, the vault unlocked in Cambridge. Marcus downloaded the encrypted file, running a high-speed cross-match against regional donor banks.

“Got it!” Marcus shouted into his comms. “There’s a matching donor! A twelve-year-old girl in a private recovery ward in Boston whose parents signed into David’s experimental genetic registry years ago!”

“Dispatch a transport team immediately. Bring the sample to Mass General under police escort,” Maxwell ordered.

At the hospital, Emily’s heart monitor began to beep with a faster, more erratic rhythm. Her skin was burning with fever, and her small hand gripped Sarah’s finger so tightly her knuckles turned white.

“Mommy... it hurts,” Emily whispered, her eyelids fluttering.

“I know, my sweet angel. I know. Just hold on a little longer,” Sarah cried, kissing her forehead over and over while the medical staff rushed into the room with emergency resuscitation equipment.

Maxwell stood at the foot of the bed, his hands clenched into fists so tight his nails broke the skin. He had spent his entire life believing that money could buy safety, control, and peace. But standing here, watching his daughter slip away, he realized money was just paper. Only love, raw and fierce, could fight death.
