Chapter 15 - THE BATTLE FOR LIFE

The joy of the reunion was immediately met by the brutal reality of Emily’s medical chart. Her white blood cell count had plummeted dangerously low overnight. Dr. Katherine Morgan stood outside the glass partition with Maxwell and Sarah, her face grim.
“The leukemia has reached an aggressive acute phase,” Katherine said, pointing to the glowing monitor displays. “Chemotherapy alone isn't enough anymore. She needs a bone-marrow transplant immediately. And because of her rare genetic marker, we need a 100% match.”
“Use me,” Maxwell said instantly. “I’m her father. Test me.”
“We already ran preliminary tissue typing on you and Sarah,” Katherine replied quietly. “Neither of you is a compatible donor. The genetic anomaly she inherited makes parental matches impossible.”

Sarah swayed, catching herself against the wall, terror flaring in her green eyes. “Then... where do we find a match? There’s no time to search national registries.”
“There is one place,” Katherine said, her expression guarded. “David Vance kept a private biometric vault containing DNA profiles of the regional elite children enrolled in his trust funds. If there’s a compatible donor child in his private database, we can extract the location within the hour.”
