Chapter 18 - THE MIRACLE IN THE OR

The courier arrived twenty minutes later, sprinting through the emergency entrance carrying a temperature-controlled titanium bio-case straight to the surgical floor.

Dr. Katherine Morgan took the sample directly from the sterile container, her hands steady as she prepared the infusion suite.

“Prep the operating theatre. We’re moving her now,” Katherine commanded.

For four agonizing hours, Maxwell and Sarah sat in the sterile waiting room, holding hands in silence, watching the digital clock tick past midnight. Every second felt like an eternity.

When the double doors finally swung open, Dr. Katherine Morgan walked out, pulling off her surgical cap. Her face was exhausted, but her eyes were bright.

“The marrow graft was successful,” Katherine smiled, letting out a heavy breath. “Her body has accepted the donor cells. The fever is breaking, Maxwell. She’s going to make it.”

Sarah buried her face in her hands, sobbing with pure, unadulterated relief, while Maxwell pulled her tightly against his chest, whispering words of thanksgiving into her hair.
