Chapter 14 - THE REUNION IN ROOM 402

Forty-eight hours later, Massachusetts General Hospital’s pediatric oncology ward was locked down—not for security threats, but for a miracle.

A specialized medical transport team rolled a quiet, private gurney into Room 402.

Emily sat propped up against her pillows, wearing her soft lavender cap, her thin fingers playing with Mr. Bear. She looked up as the door opened.

Maxwell walked in first, holding the hand of a frail, beautiful woman with soft green eyes and red hair streaked with silver.

Sarah’s breath caught in her throat at the sight of the pale, tiny girl in the hospital bed. For a moment, the fog in Sarah’s mind parted completely, clearing a path straight to her heart.

“Emily,” Sarah choked out, a sob breaking from her chest.

Emily blinked, staring at the woman with the exact same eyes she looked at every morning in the mirror.

“Mommy?” Emily whispered, her voice trembling.

Sarah rushed forward, dropping to her knees beside the bed, wrapping her arms around her daughter with infinite, desperate tenderness, careful not to disturb the IV lines. “I’m here, my sweet baby. I’m right here. Mommy isn't ever leaving you again.”

Maxwell stood by the window, watching them, feeling the last cold piece of his billionaire armor melt away.
