Chapter 7 - The Confrontation at the EstateBy afternoon, the news of the freeze on the Vance family accounts had spread through our social circle like wildfire.

I drove back to my mother’s estate—the sprawling, manicured suburban home where all of this arrogance and entitlement had been bred. I needed to collect the remaining belongings Lily and I had left behind before cutting ties permanently.

When I pulled into the circular driveway, Mom’s luxury sedan was parked crookedly across the grass. She had clearly just returned from her failed attempt to post bail at the courthouse.

She was standing on the front porch, her hair disheveled, her designer blouse wrinkled, looking like a queen whose castle had just been successfully stormed.

As I stepped out of my car, she marched down the steps, her finger pointed straight at my face.

"You did this!" Mom shrieked, her voice cracking with hysteria. "You brought your ruthless ex-husband into our lives, you put your own sister behind bars, and now the courts have frozen every single cent I have to my name! How could you be so cruel to your own flesh and blood?"

I stopped, looking at her with a calm, chilling detachment that I didn't know I possessed.

"Cruel, Mom?" I asked softly, walking closer. "You told me not to overreact while my five-year-old daughter was sitting alone in a dark store aisle, terrified, with one shoe missing and a price tag pressed into her bleeding palm. You protected your golden child even when she proved she was a monster."

"It was just a mistake!" Mom sobbed, her facade finally cracking into genuine, ugly desperation. "Families stick together! That’s what the Vance family does!"

"The Vance family is built on a foundation of narcissism and cruelty," I replied, opening the front door and walking inside to grab Lily's remaining clothes and toys. "And as of today, I am tearing down every last brick."
