Vanessa Rossi sat at the defense table in a crisp orange jumpsuit, her hair pulled back, staring blankly ahead as the federal judge read the verdict.
"On the counts of racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder, financial fraud, and obstruction of justice, the jury finds the defendant, Vanessa Rossi, guilty on all charges," the judge announced, his gavel striking the wooden block with a sharp, echoing crack. "This court sentences the defendant to twenty-five years in federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole."
Vanessa didn't scream. She didn't cry. She simply closed her eyes as the federal marshals stepped up behind her, clicking the cold steel cuffs around her wrists and leading her away from the courtroom forever. Her multi-million-dollar background, her family's wealth, and her bitter ambition had culminated in a cold concrete cell.
