CHAPTER 1: The Bride Who Died Before Saying "I Do"
The wedding was supposed to be the happiest day of Emily Carter's life.
Instead...
It became the day everyone would remember as a nightmare.
The grand ballroom glittered beneath crystal chandeliers. Hundreds of guests smiled as the orchestra played a romantic melody. White roses lined the aisle, candles flickered softly, and photographers waited eagerly for the perfect moment.
At the end of the aisle stood Ryan Brooks, the groom.
His eyes filled with tears as Emily appeared in the doorway.
She looked breathtaking.
Her ivory gown sparkled beneath the lights, her veil floated gently behind her, and she smiled with the kind of happiness every bride dreams of.
The guests rose to their feet, applauding as she slowly walked toward the altar.
No one noticed the tiny tremble in her hand.
No one noticed her breathing becoming heavier.
Halfway down the aisle...
Emily suddenly stopped.
Her bouquet slipped from her fingers.
She looked directly at Ryan as if trying desperately to tell him something.
Then...
She collapsed.
The music stopped instantly.
Someone screamed.
Within seconds, chaos erupted inside the ballroom.
Guests rushed forward while others backed away in panic.
Ryan dropped to his knees beside her.
"Emily! Emily, look at me!"
She didn't answer.
Her eyes remained half-open.
Her lips slowly lost their color.
An emergency doctor who happened to be among the guests immediately began CPR.
Another guest called an ambulance.
For nearly twenty minutes...
They fought to save her.
Finally, the paramedics arrived.
Machines beeped.
Doctors shouted instructions.
Ryan refused to leave her side.
Then...
The heart monitor emitted one long, continuous tone.
Silence.
One of the paramedics slowly removed his gloves.
"I'm sorry..."
"There is nothing more we can do."
Ryan stared at Emily's motionless face.
His world collapsed.
Within hours...
The bride who had been walking toward the altar was officially pronounced dead from suspected poisoning.
Nobody questioned the diagnosis.
