CHAPTER 5: The Janitor Whispered, “She Can’t Die…”

Olivia struggled against the security guards.

"Please! She's alive! You have to check her again!"

No one listened.

The senior pathologist stood calmly behind them, pretending to be the victim.

"She's emotionally unstable," he said with a sigh. "Working here has affected her judgment. I'll file the paperwork myself."

The guards dragged Olivia toward the exit.

Just then...

An elderly janitor slowly stepped into the hallway.

Everyone knew him as Mr. Thomas.

He had worked at the hospital for nearly forty years.

Quiet.

Invisible.

The kind of man no one ever noticed.

As the stretcher carrying Emily was wheeled past him, his broom suddenly slipped from his hands.

His face turned completely pale.

"No..." he whispered.

"That's impossible..."

He slowly approached the bride.

Ignoring everyone around him, he gently brushed a strand of hair away from her face.

The moment he saw the small crescent-shaped birthmark behind her left ear...

His knees nearly gave out.

"It really is her..."

The doctor immediately stepped forward.

"Sir, please step away."

But the old man refused.

His eyes filled with tears.

"I held this child the day she was born."

The hallway fell silent.

Ryan, who had returned to sign several legal documents, looked up in confusion.

"You... knew my wife?"

The old janitor nodded slowly.

"I worked at Saint Mary's Hospital twenty-six years ago."

"I remember the night she was born because three babies were delivered within minutes of each other."

He looked directly at the doctor.

"And something happened that night..."

The doctor's confident expression disappeared.

The old man continued.

"I heard two doctors arguing."

"One of them kept saying..."

'The wrong baby was taken.'

Everyone stared at him.

"What do you mean?" Ryan asked.

Before the janitor could answer...

The senior pathologist suddenly interrupted.

"That's enough."

"He's old."

"His memory isn't reliable."

But Mr. Thomas pointed a trembling finger straight at the doctor.

"I've never forgotten your face."

"You were one of those doctors."

The entire hallway exploded with whispers.

The doctor's jaw tightened.

May you like

For the first time...

Fear appeared in his eyes.
