CHAPTER 10: The Mastermind Finally Revealed

Three days later...

The hospital was surrounded by police vehicles.

News crews crowded outside the entrance.

The miraculous survival of "the bride who came back from the dead" had become national headlines.

Emily slowly recovered in a secure hospital room under FBI protection.

Ryan never left her side.

But one question remained unanswered.

Who had poisoned the champagne?

The FBI reviewed every second of the wedding footage.

Hundreds of videos.

Dozens of camera angles.

Finally...

One investigator paused the video.

"There."

The screen zoomed in on the moment just before Emily walked down the aisle.

An elderly woman dressed as one of the wedding florists quietly exchanged two identical champagne glasses.

She smiled politely.

No one noticed.

Except the camera.

Minutes later, she disappeared through the kitchen exit.

The FBI identified her within hours.

She wasn't a florist.

She wasn't even employed by the venue.

Her fingerprints matched those of an international contract assassin who had been presumed dead for nearly fifteen years.

But what shocked everyone even more...

Was who had hired her.

The payment had come through a chain of shell companies before leading investigators to the chairman of the Ashford Family Trust.

The man responsible for managing Victor Ashford's fortune.

For over twenty years, he had controlled billions of dollars that legally belonged to Emily.

If Emily reclaimed her true identity...

He would lose everything.

That evening, FBI agents arrested him as he tried to board a private jet.

Confronted with the evidence, he finally confessed.

"I thought she died years ago."

"When I learned she was getting married..."

"I knew I had only one chance left."

Months later, Emily stood once again in a church.

This time there were no cameras.

No extravagant decorations.

No crowds.

Only a few close friends, Olivia, Mr. Thomas, and the FBI agent who had saved her life.

Ryan took Emily's hands.

"I almost lost you once."

"I'll spend the rest of my life making sure I never do again."

Emily smiled through tears.

"I already died once."

"From now on..."

"I'm going to live."

As the two exchanged their vows, sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows.

Outside, Olivia quietly looked up at the sky.

The chief doctor's old words came back to her:

"Never fear the dead. Fear the living who smile."

She finally understood what he had meant.
