CHAPTER 7: The Bride Opened Her Eyes

Ryan instinctively stepped in front of Mr. Thomas.
The doctor's pistol remained perfectly steady.
"No one leaves this room," he said coldly.
"You've spent twenty-six years hiding the truth," Ryan shouted. "Why kill Emily?"
The doctor let out a bitter laugh.
"You still don't understand."
"It's not Emily..."
"It's who she really is."
Before Ryan could react, the doctor pulled the trigger.
BANG!
The bullet shattered a fluorescent light above their heads.
Glass rained across the floor.
Ryan grabbed Mr. Thomas, and the two men dove behind a metal storage cabinet.
At that exact moment...
An emergency alarm echoed through the hospital.
The doctor cursed under his breath.
Someone else was heading toward the morgue.
Meanwhile...
Two floors above, Olivia had refused to leave the hospital despite her suspension.
Hidden inside a supply closet, she watched the security cameras she had secretly connected to her laptop.
Then her heart nearly stopped.
Emily's heart monitor...
Which had been disconnected hours earlier...
Suddenly registered a weak signal.
One beat.
Then another.
Olivia raced toward the morgue.
She burst through the doors.
Emily's fingers were trembling violently.
Her breathing grew stronger.
Slowly...
Painfully...
The bride opened her eyes.
The bright lights made her squint.
She looked completely confused.
The first words she whispered were barely audible.
"Ryan..."
Olivia gasped.
"You can hear me?"
Emily nodded weakly.
Then tears rolled down her face.
"They..."
"They poisoned my champagne..."
Olivia immediately grabbed her phone to call emergency services.
But before she could dial...
The lights went out again.
The morgue door slowly opened.
May you like
Heavy footsteps echoed across the room.
Someone had come back to finish the job.
