Chapter 6 - The Boardroom CoupThe conference room on the fiftieth floor of Moretti Holdings smelled of intimidation and high-grade espresso.

Twelve senior partners sat around the massive black marble table, their faces varying shades of pale gray. They were the old guard—men who had built the firm on backroom deals, aggressive hostile takeovers, and a deep-seated belief that women belonged behind a typewriter, not at the head of the table.

At the center of the table sat Arthur Pendelton, the senior managing director whose silver hair and booming voice had terrorized junior associates for decades.

"This is completely irregular, Lucian," Pendelton barked, slamming a leather-bound folder onto the marble. "You can't just parachute an administrative assistant into the Chief Risk Officer position without a board vote. Where did she even get her credentials? What is her background?"

The heavy oak doors at the end of the room swung open.

Selena Hart walked in.

She wasn't wearing the navy dress. She wore a tailored charcoal pantsuit with razor-sharp lapels, her dark hair pulled back into a severe, immaculate chignon. Her heels clicked against the marble floor with the rhythmic, terrifying cadence of a firing squad.

She didn't look at the partners. She walked straight to the head of the table, stood beside Lucian—who leaned back in his leather chair with a look of supreme, cat-that-ate-the-canary amusement—and dropped a thick stack of manila folders directly in front of Arthur Pendelton.

"My background, Mr. Pendelton," Selena said, her voice cutting through the heavy air like a razor, "includes auditing every single offshore account this firm operated between 2021 and 2025. Including the three million dollars you quietly diverted through a shell company in the British Virgin Islands to cover your son's legal fees."

Pendelton’s face drained of color. The papers scattered across the table as his hands began to shake violently. "That's... that's slander. You have no proof—"

"Page four, paragraph two," Selena said smoothly, not even blinking as she rested her palms on the edge of the table and leaned forward. "Complete with your digital signature, the routing numbers, and the corresponding wire confirmation from the Cayman branch. You have forty-eight hours to resign, forfeit your equity stake, and clear your desk, or I forward this entire dossier to the Department of Justice before the stock market opens on Monday."

Silence descended on the room—a heavy, suffocating silence where twelve powerful men suddenly realized they were looking at an apex predator who had been wearing sheep's clothing for six years just to study their weaknesses.

Pendelton looked desperately around the table, but the other partners were staring intently at their hands, terrified that their own names were buried in the next folder.

"Meeting adjourned," Lucian said smoothly, standing up and offering Selena his arm.
