Chapter 7 - Shadows in the PenthouseMidnight in Manhattan was a symphony of flashing lights and distant sirens, but inside the Moretti penthouse, the world felt entirely suspended.

Selena stood by the glass wall, a crystal glass of bourbon in her hand, watching the red tail lights of traffic crawl across the bridge below. The adrenaline of the boardroom coup was slowly fading, leaving behind a strange, unfamiliar hum under her skin—the feeling of absolute, uncompromised power.

Footsteps approached softly behind her. Strong arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest. Lucian rested his chin on her shoulder, his breath warm against her neck.

"You terrified them," he murmured, a low rumble of amusement vibrating against her back. "Pendelton hasn't left his office in three hours. He's literally shredding his own family photo albums out of paranoia."

"Good," Selena said, leaning back into his embrace, letting the tension leave her shoulders for the first time all week. "Fear is a much better motivator than loyalty. Loyalty can be bought. Fear requires constant maintenance."

Lucian turned her gently in his arms, his dark eyes searching hers with an intensity that made the city lights fade away. "You're becoming dangerous, Selena."

"I was always dangerous, Lucian," she whispered, lifting her chin with a defiant, brilliant smile. "You just handed me the ammunition."

He didn't answer with words. He kissed her—deep, hungry, and entirely possessive—a silent acknowledgment that they were no longer two separate players on a board, but a matched set of architects ready to tear the city down and rebuild it in their own image.
