Chapter 13 - THE INJUNCTION“Halt right there,” Agent Sterling ordered, holding up an official blue-backed document stamped with a federal seal. “Avalon Wright, Colonel Duane Carney, you are in direct violation of Emergency Congressional Injunction 404-B. All physical and digital evidence pertaining to Titan Tactical Systems is hereby ordered surrendered to the Senate oversight committee immediately.”

The cameras below surged forward, lenses zooming in on the confrontation at the top of the stairs. Flashbulbs popped continuously, capturing every tense muscle in our faces.

I stopped two feet away from the agent, looking down at the stamped injunction.

“That injunction was signed by a judge who has a financial portfolio tied directly to Senator Thomas Sterling’s campaign PAC,” I said, my voice carrying clearly across the stone steps.

Agent Sterling’s face tightened. “Watch your mouth, Ms. Wright. Hand over the drives, or you will be placed under immediate arrest for obstruction of federal oversight.”

“We aren't handing over anything to a congressional puppet,” Carney stepped forward, his uniform medals catching the dim morning light. “The Department of Defense Inspector General has active jurisdiction under counter-espionage statutes. Your paper is invalid.”

“Take them into custody!” the agent barked, motioning for the marshals to move in.

Before the marshals could take a single step forward, Marcus Vance calmly opened his briefcase, pulled out a satellite transmitter the size of a paperback book, and flipped a toggle switch.

A sharp, high-pitched digital chime echoed from the media trucks parked below.
