Chapter 1 - The Sound of Breaking GlassThe heavy oak doors of the Morrison estate didn't just open—they flew off their traditional hinges, battered aside by a detachment of federal-grade corporate security personnel.

At the head of the unit strode Arthur, his silver-gray suit immaculate, his expression carved from absolute stone. He ignored the gasps of the hired caterers. He stepped directly onto the Persian rug, his custom oxfords tracking wet mud straight across the expensive wool without a flicker of hesitation.

"Arthur?!" Brendan stammered, scrambling backward so fast his mahogany dining chair tipped over with a loud crash, spilling a half-empty glass of Merlot across the white tablecloth. "What the hell is the meaning of this? This is private property! How did you even get past the security gates?"

Arthur didn’t even look at Brendan. His eyes were fixed entirely on me, sitting quietly at the end of the long table, water still dripping from my hair onto my trembling shoulders.

Arthur walked past Diane, whose wine glass was frozen halfway to her mouth, and past Jessica, who had frozen mid-giggle. He stopped a foot away from my chair, dropped to one knee despite the muddy floor, and bowed his head respectfully.

"Protocol 7 is fully executed, Madam CEO," Arthur’s voice rang clear and cold through the cavernous dining hall. "All Morrison Group assets, personal accounts, offshore holdings, and corporate subsidiaries are officially frozen under Section 9 of the Federal Anti-Fraud and Insider Trading Act. Effective immediately."

Silence fell over the room—a dead, terrifying silence.

Brendan let out a nervous, breathless chuckle, looking around at his parents as if waiting for someone to wake him from a bad dream. "CEO? Arthur, have you lost your mind? She’s a charity case! She lives off my secondary allowance! She doesn't even have a college degree!"

"No, Mr. Morrison," Arthur stood up, turning to face Brendan with eyes full of utter contempt. "She doesn't need a college degree. She bought the university you graduated from three years ago as a tax write-off."
