CHAPTER 3 – The Father Who Was Never Supposed to Exist

Emma’s fingers shook so badly the DNA report nearly slipped from her hands.

Daniel was not Noah’s biological father.

For seven years, Daniel had raised a boy who was not his blood.

For seven years, he had looked Emma in the eyes and pretended nothing was wrong.

Eleanor’s voice dropped to a whisper.

“Daniel found out when Noah was six months old.”

Emma’s stomach twisted.

“That’s impossible. I never cheated on him.”

“I know,” Eleanor said. “Because Noah wasn’t conceived the way Daniel told you.”

Emma froze.

Eleanor revealed the truth Daniel buried: before Noah was born, Daniel had secretly switched hospital records after a fertility clinic scandal. Emma had been told everything was normal, but the clinic had used the wrong donor sample.

And the donor…

was a man Daniel hated.

A man powerful enough to ruin him.

Noah was rushed back into the room after new tests. The doctor’s face was pale.

“Mrs. Carter,” he said carefully, “we found something strange.”

Emma grabbed the bedrail.

“What?”

“Noah’s condition may not be genetic disease.”

The room went silent.

“It looks like long-term exposure to a rare toxin.”

Emma’s knees nearly gave out.

“Toxin?”

The doctor nodded grimly.

“Someone may have been poisoning him slowly.”

Eleanor covered her mouth.

Emma didn’t scream.

She didn’t cry.

She only whispered one name.

“Daniel.”

That same night, security cameras revealed Daniel had visited Noah’s room twice while Emma was sleeping.

Once with flowers.

Once with a bottle of “vitamins.”

But Daniel had made one mistake.

Noah had woken up.

And before losing consciousness, the little boy had hidden something under his pillow.

A small folded note.

Emma opened it with trembling hands.

May you like

In Noah’s shaky handwriting, it said:

“Daddy told me if I tell Mommy, she will die too.”
