CHAPTER 7 – The Hospital Went Dark… And Noah Vanished

At exactly 11:47 p.m., every light inside St. Matthew's Medical Center went out.
The backup generators should have activated within seconds.
They never did.
Darkness swallowed the entire building.
Patients screamed.
Monitors went silent.
Doctors ran through the hallways with flashlights, shouting emergency orders.
Emma instantly grabbed Noah's hand.
"It's okay, sweetheart. Mommy's here."
But before she could finish the sentence...
A sharp hiss escaped from the hospital's ventilation system.
White smoke flooded the room.
Doctors began coughing.
Security alarms blared.
When the emergency lights finally flickered back on thirty seconds later...
Noah's bed...
was empty.
Emma stared in disbelief.
"No..."
Her voice cracked.
"Noah?"
She tore through the room.
Bathroom.
Closet.
Hallway.
Nothing.
Only one thing remained on the pillow.
A black playing card.
On the front was a silver chess king.
On the back, written in red ink:
"You were never raising a son... You were protecting my masterpiece."
Emma collapsed onto the floor.
Across the hospital, Adrian grabbed the security chief.
"Lock every exit!"
The man shook his head.
"We can't."
"Every security camera was hacked."
Every electronic door had opened simultaneously.
Whoever had taken Noah knew the hospital better than the staff themselves.
Then Eleanor noticed something taped beneath Noah's bed.
A tiny GPS tracker.
The signal was still active.
Adrian immediately followed it.
Police cars...
SWAT teams...
FBI helicopters...
all raced toward an abandoned biotechnology facility outside Nashville.
But when they burst inside...
they found only empty rooms.
Dust.
Broken laboratory equipment.
And one enormous wall covered with photographs of Noah.
Thousands of them.
From birth...
Until yesterday.
In the center of the room stood a giant digital countdown.
00:59:58
One hour.
Beneath it, another message appeared on the screen.
"Choose wisely."
May you like
"Save the child..."
"...or expose the truth that will destroy millions."
