CHAPTER 4 – The Man Behind the Lie
By morning, the hospital was crawling with police.
Daniel arrived wearing a black coat, expensive watch, and the face of a grieving father.
He rushed toward Emma.
“I came as soon as I heard!”
Emma stared at him coldly.
“No, Daniel. You came because you knew the tests were back.”
His expression changed for one second.
Just one.
But it was enough.
The detective stepped forward.
“Mr. Carter, we need to ask you some questions.”
Daniel laughed nervously.
“This is ridiculous. My son is dying, and you’re harassing me?”
Emma held up Noah’s note.
Daniel’s face went white.
Then Eleanor stepped out from behind the detective.
For the first time in years, mother and son faced each other.
Daniel whispered, “You should have stayed dead.”
Eleanor’s eyes filled with rage.
“And you should have never touched that child.”
The truth finally exploded.
Daniel had discovered Noah’s real biological father was Adrian Whitmore, a billionaire medical investor who had once exposed Daniel’s theft from the charity foundation. If Adrian ever learned Noah existed, Daniel feared everything would come out.
The stolen money.
The fake identity.
The clinic records.
The poisoning.
So Daniel planned the cruelest escape possible: let Noah die, collect sympathy, and disappear with Emma’s remaining insurance payout.
But he didn’t know Adrian had already been searching for the missing child from the fertility clinic case.
And he didn’t know Eleanor had contacted him.
The elevator doors opened.
A tall man in a dark suit stepped into the hallway.
His eyes locked on Noah’s hospital room.
Adrian Whitmore.
Noah’s real father.
Daniel tried to run.
But the police stopped him before he reached the exit.
Inside the room, Noah slowly opened his eyes.
Adrian stepped closer, tears breaking through his controlled face.
Noah looked at him weakly and whispered:
“Are you the man from my dream?”
Adrian fell to his knees beside the bed.
“No, son,” he said, holding Noah’s hand.
“I’m the man who should have found you sooner.”
And behind them, Daniel screamed one final threat:

“If I go down, I’m taking Emma with me.”
