Chapter 13 - The Visitor in the Lobby

We abandoned our meal halfway through, our black sedan racing back toward Doyle Meridian Towers under the flash of emergency authority clearance. When we burst through the glass doors of the executive lobby, the night security guard was slumped in his chair, unconscious but breathing, struck down by a quick-acting chemical spray.
On the polished marble reception desk sat a single envelope, addressed to Madison Doyle, written in handwriting that made my blood run ice-cold. It wasn't my mother’s script anymore, nor was it Stephen’s. It was my own handwriting—forming words I had no memory of ever penning.
I tore the envelope open with shaking fingers. Inside was a single Polaroid photograph taken from across the street, showing me standing on the balcony of my office thirty minutes earlier, alongside a typed message: YOU FORGOT THE THIRD VAULT.

"A third vault," Dante whispered, stepping close to my shoulder, his eyes scanning the shadows of the cavernous lobby. "Neither your mother’s initial audits nor Karen’s primary files ever referenced a third location."
"The old archive," I realized, the memory snapping into focus like a developing photograph. "The original downtown building where my mother worked before it was demolished... it wasn't demolished. It was condemned and sealed beneath the city's old transit steam tunnels."
