Chapter 9 - THE RECKONING AT PIER 43Before Moretti's enforcers could reach her, the entire roof of the warehouse exploded in a blinding flash of tactical spotlights and deafening noise.

CRASH!
Heavy tactical ropes dropped from the overhead girders like cascading steel rain as a dozen heavily armed federal agents and Conti enforcers descended into the warehouse with military precision. Flashbang grenades detonated with disorienting roars, filling the air with blinding white light and concussive shockwaves.
"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!"
Chaos erupted instantly. Gunfire echoed off the metal walls as Moretti’s men scrambled for cover, only to be systematically neutralized by the synchronized precision of Alessandro's forces.
Moretti spun around in panic, grabbing Sophie by the collar and shoving the barrel of a pistol against the side of her head. "Move another step and I scatter her brains across this concrete!" he screamed, his face contorted in psychotic rage.
The entire warehouse froze. Federal agents halted their advance, their rifles locked on Moretti.
From the shadows of the main entrance, walking with slow, deliberate, unhurried steps through the drifting smoke, came Alessandro Conti.
He didn't hold a gun. His hands were tucked casually into the pockets of his tailored trousers, his dark eyes fixed entirely on Moretti with a cold, terrifying stillness.
"Let her go, Antonio," Alessandro said, his voice cutting through the ringing silence like a razor blade.
"Conti!" Moretti snarled, pressing the pistol harder against Sophie’s temple. "You think you can take my city? You think this little rat was worth starting a war?"
"She's not a rat," Alessandro replied softly, closing the distance between them step by relentless step. "She's a brilliant doctor who saved what I love. Unlike you, Antonio, who only knows how to destroy everything you touch."
"Stay back or I swear to God I'll pull the trigger!" Moretti shrieked, his finger tightening convulsively on the trigger.
Sophie closed her eyes, bracing for the impact.
BANG.
A single, perfectly placed shot echoed through the warehouse.
It didn't come from Moretti's gun.
Moretti’s eyes widened in sudden, profound shock. The pistol slipped from his nerveless fingers, clattering loudly against the concrete floor. As he slumped forward, revealing the sniper laser dot glowing steadily on his chest, federal agents swarmed forward, pinning his remaining guards to the ground in a flurry of tactical cuffs and shouts.
Sophie stumbled forward as Moretti collapsed, catching herself against a concrete pillar.
Before she could catch her breath, strong, warm arms caught her by the shoulders, pulling her firmly against a solid, familiar chest.
She looked up. Alessandro was staring down at her, his dark eyes stripped of their usual cold armor, replaced by a raw, overwhelming wave of relief.
"Are you hurt?" he asked, his voice rough and breathless.
May you like
Sophie shook her head, tears finally spilling over her lashes. "No. I'm... I'm okay."
Alessandro pulled her into a tight, fierce embrace, burying his face briefly in her dark hair. And in that moment, standing amidst the smoke and ruins of a criminal empire, Sophie realized her life as a terrified ghost was finally over.
