Chapter 14 - The Cell Block Confession


The visiting room of the federal penitentiary smelled of industrial disinfectant and stale coffee. Harrison sat across the reinforced glass partition, staring at his reflection in the smudged plastic. The door clicked open, and a guard escorted a visitor inside.
It wasn't a lawyer. It was Daniel Reeves.
Harrison slammed his palm against the glass. "You coward! You were supposed to bury those files!"
Reeves looked older, his tailored suit replaced by a cheap civilian jacket, his posture defeated. "I couldn't bury a federal subpoena, Harrison. Your father left trails you were too arrogant to see. The board has voted. You’re stripped of all voting rights, all shares, and your surname has been legally severed from the corporate charter."
"I built that empire!" Harrison snarled, his face twisting in fury.

"You inherited a foundation and turned it into a prison," Reeves replied quietly, standing up and sliding his chair back. "Good luck with your sentencing hearing next week, Harrison. You’re entirely on your own."
As Reeves walked out of the room, Harrison slammed his fist against the partition one last time, finally realizing that the walls he had built to trap others had become his own permanent cage.
