Chapter 14 - Sirens in the DistanceAs Vincent writhed in agony on the wet rooftop, wailing as the rain washed over his bleeding shoulder, the distant wail of police sirens began to echo up the winding hill from the city below.

Not local patrol cars. Federal tactical units, accompanied by state investigators and financial crimes investigators who had spent months compiling evidence against the eastern syndicate.

Leo walked slowly over to the fallen detonator, crushed it beneath the heel of his shoe, and kicked it over the edge of the roof. He then looked down at Vincent with cold, absolute detachment.

"Your empire of blackmail and extortion ends tonight, Vincent," Leo said softly. "The federal marshals are downstairs. They have every bank routing number, every offshore account, and every testimony needed to put you away for the rest of your natural life."

Vincent stared up at him in sheer terror, realizing that his grand betrayal had completely unraveled. The guards he had paid off had already fled, and his underground allies had abandoned him the moment the first federal cruiser appeared at the gates.

Two estate security guards marched onto the rooftop, hauled Vincent to his feet by his remaining uninjured arm, and dragged him away toward the descending service elevator, leaving a trail of dark rain in their wake.
