Chapter 19 - Under the Starlit ArchThat evening, the rain finally cleared away, leaving the air crisp, clean, and filled with the scent of wet pine and blooming lilies from the estate gardens.

Clara stood alone on the stone terrace outside the grand library, looking up at the sprawling canopy of stars stretching across the night sky. The city lights twinkled in the distance like a million tiny diamonds, no longer a symbol of the struggle and poverty she had once fought against, but a landscape she now helped shape.

Footsteps crunched softly on the gravel path behind her.

Leo walked out onto the terrace, holding two crystal glasses filled with sparkling water. He handed one to her, his fingers brushing hers warmly in the cool night air.

"Penny for your thoughts, partner," Leo teased gently, leaning against the balustrade beside her.

Clara smiled, taking a sip of the cool water. "I was just thinking about how strange life is. A month ago, I thought eighty-seven dollars was the difference between life and death."

"And now?" Leo asked, his dark eyes softening as he looked down at her.

"Now, I realize it wasn't about the money at all," Clara said softly, turning to face him. "It was about finding someone who wouldn't let you fall when the weight of the world got too heavy to carry."

Leo set his glass down on the stone ledge, stepped closer, and gently cupped her cheek with his hand, his thumb brushing over her skin with an infinite tenderness that he reserved for her alone.

"I told you on your first night here," Leo murmured, his voice dropping into a low, resonant cadence that sent a shiver straight down her spine. "Nobody touches what belongs to me. And from the moment I saw your hand shaking at that table, you belonged right here."
