Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Betrayal and the Final GambitThe rain outside hammered relentlessly against the glass as Leo stood frozen in the center of Clara’s room, the weight of twenty years of family deception crashing down upon his shoulders. He didn't deny it. He didn't shout. He simply looked at the leather diary in Clara’s hand, and for the first time since she had known him, Leo Castillion looked tired.

"My father told me he fled with the money," Leo said quietly, his voice hollow. "He told me the board executed justice to protect our name."
"Your father lied," Clara said, her voice trembling with a mixture of rage and profound sorrow. "And now I'm living under the roof of the man who inherited the empire built on my family's ruined grave."
She stood up, backing away toward the window. "I'm leaving, Leo. I can't stay here. Every minute I spend in this house feels like a betrayal of everything my father died for."
Before Leo could answer, the heavy oak door burst open with a deafening crash.
Sarah stood in the doorway, breathless, her face stark white with terror. "Mr. Castillion! The perimeter gates! They've been breached! Armed men—dozens of them—they're surrounding the main house!"
Leo’s demeanor transformed in a fraction of a second. The vulnerable heir vanished, replaced instantly by the ruthless syndicate boss who ruled the city with an iron fist. He drew a heavy Beretta pistol from his shoulder holster with practiced speed and cocked the slide.
"Who?" Leo demanded sharply.
"Vincent Marlowe," Sarah gasped, clutching her chest. "He partnered with the eastern borough syndicate. They have explosives on the lower service tunnels. They want the entire estate—and they want everyone inside eliminated."
Clara’s heart stopped. She looked from Sarah to Leo, then down at her father’s diary clutched in her hand.
Vincent hadn't just been cast out; he had gone to ground with the city's most violent underground cartel, armed with the knowledge of every blind spot, every thermal sensor, and every secret entrance in the Castillion estate. And they had come back to finish what they started.
Leo turned to Clara, his dark eyes burning with absolute, uncompromising resolve.
"Get behind the reinforced panic room behind the bookcase," Leo ordered, his voice brooking no argument.
"I'm not hiding while you fight them alone," Clara shot back, her fear instantly replaced by a sudden, fierce defiance inherited from the very father Leo's family had wronged. "My father died running from these monsters. I am not running."
Leo stared at her for one long, suspended second. Then, a grim, dangerous smile touched the corners of his mouth. He reached out with his left hand, grabbed her right hand, and placed a heavy, loaded compact pistol directly into her palm.
"Then don't run," Leo said softly, stepping in front of her as the first window in the hallway shattered into a thousand glittering pieces under the impact of a sledgehammer. "We finish this together."
