Chapter 29 - The Final Reckoning

Vance’s hand never reached his weapon.

Before the older man’s fingers could close around the grip of his pistol, Adrian moved with blinding, predatory speed. He vaulted across the coffee table, slamming Vance backward into the mahogany bulkhead with enough force to shatter the glass panels behind him.

Vance gasped, his breath knocked out of his lungs, dropping his weapon as Adrian’s hands closed around his collar.

“This is for Marcus Laurent,” Adrian whispered, his voice vibrating with lethal intensity.

“Wait... Moretti... we can make a deal—” Vance choked out, his eyes wide with stark, unadulterated terror. “The authorities... they’ll hunt you down for this—!”

“The authorities are already outside,” Adrian replied coldly.

Through the tinted glass windows of the yacht’s salon, the flashing red and blue lights of federal coast guard cutters and local tactical vehicles suddenly illuminated the marina piers. Mateo and his team had locked down the perimeter, securing the area before Vance’s private security detail even realized what was happening.

Adrian didn’t kill him. Death was too easy for a man like Marcus Vance.

Instead, Adrian tossed Vance’s weapon across the carpet, shoved the disgraced former prosecutor hard onto the floor, and stepped back, wiping his hands as if he had just touched something foul.

“联邦 agents are boarding the vessel in ten seconds, Marcus,” Adrian said, looking down at the groaning man with utter contempt. “Enjoy federal prison. I hear the food in maximum security is almost as bitter as defeat.”

I walked up beside Adrian, slipping my hand into his. He looked down at me, his hard expression melting away into the warmth and devotion that only existed when he was with us.

“It’s over,” Adrian whispered, pulling me against his side.

“It’s over,” I agreed, pressing my head against his shoulder as the heavy thud of federal boots echoed down the dock outside.
