Chapter 30 - The Shoreline Horizon

Six months later.

The salt air of St. Augustine no longer felt like a hiding place. It felt like home.

The white-washed cottage had been repainted, a wooden swing hung from the large oak tree in the front yard, and the sound of children laughing echoed through the open windows every single morning. There were no more guards in the bushes, no more encrypted burners buzzing in the night, no more shadows waiting around the corner.

The trials in New York and Zurich had concluded swiftly, backed by unbreakable federal evidence. Marcus Vance was spending the rest of his natural life behind the thick glass doors of a supermax facility, and the remnants of the Moretti-Vasiliev syndicate had been permanently dissolved into history.

On a warm Saturday afternoon, the sun dipped toward the Atlantic, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of gold, violet, and crimson.

I stood on the front porch, watching Adrian push Emma on the wooden tree swing while Oliver chased a golden retriever puppy across the manicured lawn. Adrian wore a simple linen shirt, his sleeves rolled up, laughing openly as Emma squealed with delight every time the swing flew higher toward the leaves.

He looked up, catching my eye across the lawn.

He didn't walk—he ran.

Crossing the grass in long, effortless strides, Adrian swept me up into his arms the second he reached the porch, spinning me around as a breathless, joyful laugh escaped my lips. He set me down slowly, keeping his hands locked securely around my waist, his gray-green eyes shining with a peace we had both spent a lifetime fighting to find.

“What is that smile for?” Adrian asked, his thumb gently tracing my cheekbone. “Just thinking,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around his neck, pulling him down until our lips met in a long, unhurried kiss that tasted of salt air, forgiveness, and forever. “We finally made it home, Daddy.”

Adrian smiled, resting his forehead against mine as the sun dipped below the horizon, bathing our family in the golden glow of a brand-new day.
