Chapter 11 - The Phantom Signature

The morning sun filtered through the bulletproof glass of the Thorne Tower penthouse, casting sharp geometric shadows across the white oak floors. Marcus sat behind his minimalist titanium desk, his eyes scanning a digitized dossier that had just been transmitted from an encrypted offshore server in Zurich.

At the center of the screen was a scanned banking document bearing what looked like his father’s signature—signed four years before his death, transferring voting shares of Thorne Logistics to an anonymous shell corporation named Aethelgard Holdings.

"It’s a forgery," Victoria Vance stated flatly, leaning against the edge of the desk with her arms crossed. "A very good one, executed by someone who had access to your father’s old fountain pen ink composition and his personal notary stamp."

Marcus didn't look up from the screen. "Elena?"

"Who else?" Victoria replied. "She didn't just plan a hostile takeover through Arthur and David. She set up a backdoor inheritance trust designed to activate the moment you or Khloe suffered a catastrophic public scandal. If the hospital attack had succeeded, Aethelgard Holdings would have automatically triggered a forced liquidation of the company within twenty-four hours."

The intercom on Marcus’s desk buzzed softly.

"Mr. Thorne," the receptionist’s voice came through, strained with tension. "There’s a courier downstairs. He insists on delivering a physical package directly to Mrs. Thorne. He says it’s from an estate lawyer handling the late Elena Thorne’s unsealed private inventory."

Marcus’s jaw tightened. "Hold the courier in the lobby. Do not let him leave."

"Too late, Marcus," a cool, familiar voice drifted from the doorway.

Khloe stood in the entrance of the office, holding a heavy, black leather-bound ledger in her hands. She wore a tailored charcoal pantsuit, her hair pulled back into a sleek, severe ponytail. Her eyes were sharp, carrying the calm, calculating focus of a battlefield general.

"I intercepted him in the private elevator landing," Khloe said, walking toward the desk and dropping the heavy ledger onto the glass surface. "And trust me, Marcus... you're going to want to read what’s inside before you talk to the courier."
