Chapter 17 - The Cradle of the Future

Two years later.
The nursery in the Thorne penthouse was bathed in warm, golden afternoon light. Little Evelyn, now a toddler with bright, curious eyes and her father’s stubborn chin, was busy stacking wooden building blocks on the plush rug.
Khloe sat in a velvet rocking chair by the window, reading a quiet financial report while keeping a watchful eye on her daughter.
The door opened silently, and Marcus stepped in, holding two cups of steaming black coffee. He handed one to Khloe, sitting down on the edge of the rug to help Evelyn place a precarious final block on her tower.
"The quarterly audit just cleared," Marcus said, smiling as Evelyn successfully placed the block without toppling the structure. "Thorne Enterprises is officially debt-free across all global divisions. No offshore leverage, no shadow shareholders, no hidden liabilities."
Khloe set her coffee down and smiled, her eyes softening as she looked at her husband and daughter.
"And the foundation?" she asked.
"Fully funded," Marcus replied. "We just endowed a new wing at St. Jude's Private Hospital—dedicated entirely to maternal safety and high-security patient protection."
Khloe laughed softly, walking over to join them on the floor. She leaned her head against Marcus’s shoulder as Evelyn crawled over, demanding a hug from both of her parents at once.

They had built a home.
