Chapter 9 - The Boardroom Inheritance

Three weeks later.

The boardroom on the forty-fifth floor of Thorne Tower had been entirely remodeled. The old dark mahogany table was replaced by modern brushed steel and architectural glass, symbolizing a new era for the empire.

At the head of the table sat Marcus Thorne. But today, he wasn't alone.

Sitting in a custom ergonomic executive chair beside him was Khloe, wearing an ivory silk blazer, looking radiant, strong, and completely untouchable. Resting peacefully in a high-end designer bassinet beside her was baby Evelyn Thorne, sleeping soundly through the low hum of the air conditioning.

The double doors swung open.

Victoria Vance walked in, followed by three federal prosecutors carrying heavy leather portfolios.

"The sentencing hearing concluded twenty minutes ago," Victoria announced, setting a certified court document down in front of Marcus. "Arthur Pendelton received eighteen years without parole for federal wire fraud and conspiracy to commit endangerment. David Rossi pled guilty to corporate espionage and received twenty-five."

She paused, sliding a final, thick manila envelope across the table.

"And Isabella?" Khloe asked calmly, her eyes fixed on the report.

"Isabella’s defense tried to plead temporary insanity based on severe social pressure and familial manipulation," Victoria said with a faint, satisfied smile. "The judge took one look at the unedited security footage from the hospital suite, watched her rehearse her fake tears for the officers, and threw the book at her. Ten years, minimum security facility upstate. Her family name is officially radioactive; her father has been stripped of his board seats across three continents."

Marcus reached out, taking Khloe’s hand across the glass table. Their fingers intertwined naturally, the tension of the past month entirely gone, replaced by an unbreakable bond forged in the crucible of betrayal.

"And Elena?" Marcus asked.

"Federal penitentiary, maximum security ward," Victoria replied, picking up her briefcase. "She’ll spend the rest of her natural life behind bulletproof glass, staring at four gray walls while her empire is slowly auctioned off to pay back our legal fees."

The room fell quiet. The heavy doors clicked shut as Victoria and the legal team exited, leaving the family alone in the vast, sunlit penthouse suite.

Khloe looked down at her sleeping daughter, then turned her gaze to Marcus.

"You know," Khloe murmured softly, a faint, teasing smile touching her lips, "when you invited me to that charity gala three months ago, you promised me a quiet evening of high society and polite conversation."

Marcus smiled back, leaning over to kiss her cheek tenderly. "Next time, I promise we'll stay home and order takeout."

"Good," Khloe whispered, resting her head against his shoulder as the Manhattan skyline sparkled brilliantly beneath them in the midday sun. "Because next time, I won't just break a champagne glass on the floor. I'll aim for the head."
